Sit upright in a chair with your feet flat on the floor.
Place both crutches by your side, on the same side as your sound limb.
Use the crutches' handles to form a ‘H’ shape.
Push through your sound limb to bring yourself to standing.
Assist this action by pushing down through the crutch handles with one hand and the arm of the chair with the other hand.
Once stable, reposition the crutches so there is one crutch in each hand.
